Journal Entry #4

In Dr. Travis Bradberry’s article, “13 Things That Will Make You Happier,” Bradberry describes events and habits that will make a person happier. More specifically, Bradberry claims that it is our habits that determine our overall happiness — the set point of happiness we feel every day. Bradberry describes certain habits, such as comparing yourself to others and neglecting to set goals, as common factors that decrease overall happiness. Bradberry’s claims ring true when analyzed more closely. The natural habits of a person, such as their productivity levels and their motivation, influence their happiness every day. After all, happiness is an emotion that doesn’t only exist when good or bad events occur. Therefore, it is necessary t maintain positive habits in order to be happier.

It is crucial for professionals to maintain a positive and optimistic attitude as it determines their productivity levels. If someone is negative and nihilistic, they won’t have any motivation at their job and they won’t work toward a goal because they either don’t believe they can achieve it or they don’t believe there’s a point. A positive attitude helps professionals remain goal-oriented and establish better careers. It also helps them make advancements in their respective fields, which is absolutely necessary in scientific careers.
